Journal of Astronautics, supervised by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and sponsored by the Chinese Society of Astronautics (CSA), is an authoritative comprehensive academic journal in China’s aerospace field. Founded in 1980 by Dr. Qian Xuesen ("Founder of China’s Aerospace Industry") and Dr. Ren Xinmin (a space pioneer), Dr. Qian Xuesen contributed the inaugural article, while Dr. Ren Xinmin served as the first Editor-in-Chief and he was later succeeded by Zhuang Fenggan, Ma Xingrui, and Du Shanyi. Currently, Dr.Wang Wei, the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, is the Editor-in-Chief and leads its development. Over the past 45 years, it has become a core platform for showcasing China’s aerospace strength.

With the positioning of "reaching for the top and grounding in reality," the journal has built a "theory-technology-engineering" trinity ecosystem, aligning with national strategies and rooted in engineering practice. It focuses on prospective research and applications in aerospace, covering major fields including vehicle design, flight mechanics, and guidance, navigation, and control. Consistently indexed in Ei Compendex, Scopus, Peking University Chinese Core Journals, CSTPCD, and CSCD, it has been selected for "Chinese Leading Journals (Phase II of China's Excellent Sci-Tech Journals Project)"—a key window reflecting China’s aerospace achievements.
